The Internship Forum is an initiative of the NSW Medical Students’ Council, designed to connect graduating medical students who are interested in swapping the location of their internship for 2016.

How to use this website

Adding a listing

You can list your allocated network and select your desired network(s). If you can select multiple ‘desired networks’, multiple listings will be created automatically.

Activating a listing

Click on the confirmation email sent to your email inbox for your listing to go live on the site.

Deleting a listing

Click on the dedicated deletion link sent to your email inbox.

Viewing & filtering listings

You can view all listings posted on the website as well as filter listings according to either “allocated” or “desired” networks.

Internal messaging

If you have found a potential swap, click on “send message” and enter your contact details/message. This will be sent securely via email. The recipient can then communicate directly with you, to discuss the swap.

Security

Although reasonable efforts are taken to ensure that information posted online is secure (no contact details or full names listed), NSWMSC accepts no responsibility for misuse of information or data posted on the website.

Audit of listings

Please use your first & last name, and include your email and contact number. Using fake contact details or listings that do not comply with this requirement will be deleted.

Can I swap the offer I receive with another applicant?

The rules for swapping internships have been outlined by HETI (read more here) and are stated below:

"It is important for medical students to be aware that, once intern offers are made and accepted, a very small number of interns can arrange a swap. As discussed with its key stakeholders, HETI is not able to offer an intern swap process.

HETI is responsible for administering the process of allocating positions to prevocational interns in an equitable way. This process uses an algorithm to allocate positions, based on the preferences applicants list on their application and the positions available at the time of allocation.

HETI then advises Local Health Districts, who are responsible for drawing up employment contracts for interns who have accepted positions with them. This occurs in September each year once all positions have been filled.
            
HETI is unable to facilitate the swapping of internship positions. Interns are advised that any proposed transfer or swap for intern positions can only be raised with the employer, which can only happen once your employer has made contact with you.”
